Nostalgia in Typgraphy is a zine design for an assignment for the university subject Typographic Design.
Our brief was to create a zine that explores an element of typography. I chose to explore the current trends of brands using typefaces that echo retro aesthetics. The zine examines the possible reasons for the trend, and also displays case studies.

the concept
Nostalgic typefaces are appearing over and over in our current visual culture. Recent branding and design choices are directly echoing nostalgic forms for a very specific purpose. These feelings attracts us to the familiar and comfortable letter forms of the past. As humans, we often trigger nostalgic moments as a self-soothing mechanism. Research shows that nostalgia makes people more optimistic about the future,
it inspires a sense of resilience. It’s no wonder these sentimental typefaces are catching our eyes.
